Workplace Learning
Students at Great Lakes
College have the
opportunity to participate in a range of Workplace Learning
activities. These are designed to allow you to experience the World of
Work, to test job and career preferences and/or develop new skills.
The following workplace learning activities are
available to students:
Work Experience:
This is normally available to Year 10 students
(however, students in Years 11 and 12 may be considered by
negotiation). If you would like to try a week of Work Experience, you
need to see your campus Careers Advisor to discuss it. After you have met with
your campus Careers Advisor, they will give you the paperwork which needs to be signed by
the employer, your parent(s), yourself and the school. It is your
responsibility to find your own Work Experience placement, but
your campus Careers Advisor will provide you with all the things you need to do this.
After you have completed your week of Work
Experience, the employer will fill out an evaluation form which you
will get to keep and put in your resume.
Work Placement:
Some courses in the Senior School have compulsory
work placement as part of the course. The Vocational Education and
Training (VET) courses have a requirement that you must do at least
one week of work placement in the industry related to that course.
These placements are organised for you and you will be learning
specific skills while you are there. See your campus Careers Advisor,
Mr Glanville or the VET
teachers for more information.
